HES Protocol

The HES Protocol covers the dissemination of HES data. It instructs HES users on how any request for information involving patient- and consultant-identifiable data must be treated to ensure the security of the data and the confidentiality of the patient and the consultant.

The original HES Protocol was written in consultation with the British Medical Association (BMA). It was updated in June 2009 to include information on monthly data, along with updated footnotes and release guidelines for HES data.

Users of the HES Interrogation System

Users of the HES Interrogation System should read the revised Protocol carefully, sign the declaration form (Appendix A) and return the signed form to the Information Governance team at The NHS Information Centre using the details below. Failure to return the form will result in loss of access to the HES Interrogation System.

Forms should be sent to:

The Information Governance Team,
The NHS Information Centre for health and social care,
1, Trevelyan Square,
Boar Lane,
Leeds,
LS1 6AE.
