HES Monthly Managed Extract Service (MMES)

The HES Monthly Managed Extract Service (MMES) gives customers access to monthly provisional pseudonymised HES data extracts, priced as a subscription service for a period of twelve months renewable by mutual agreement. This service is aimed at organisations that require current HES data or who routinely need to utilise all of the HES fields^* (Non-sensitive/identifiable).

The key features of this service are:

• The dataset is supplied to you at episode level. This means there is one row per episode.
• The standard MMES service delivers all available^* non-sensitive, non-identifiable HES Admitted Patient Care (APC) and Out Patient (OP) data fields on a regular, monthly subscription.
• Customers will receive 12 APC and 12 OP record level extracts commencing with a year to date file, plus a further 11 cumulative, provisional monthly extracts.
• The minimum subscription term is for 12 months.
• A 3 month cancellation period applies to subscriptions after the initial 12 months.

• Your application will be subject to the relevant legislation - you will have to justify why you need the dataset and what you intend to do with it, and you will also need to ensure that you store, use and dispose of the dataset appropriately in order to comply with the legislation

MMES base subscription costs for varying numbers of HES or HES linked datasets are:

At present we only offer a 2 or 3 dataset subscription but this may change in the future.

In addition to this base fee there may be other charges depending on your requirements:

** From September 2012 it is assumed that all MMES subscribers will receive their data via electronic file transfer. Those customers that wish to receive DVDs after August 2012 will incur this additional fee to cover the production and delivery of the DVD.

Requesting episode records

To submit a request:

• Complete the applicant details form. This tells us who you are, your intended use for the data and where to send the specification, data and invoice.
• Should you be using HES data with a third party, you must also complete the Third party data security form. Only third parties that have completed this form will be allowed access to data provided.
