Finalised PROMs data 2009-10

The data for the coverage period 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2025 has been finalised. Eligible HES episodes with an episode start date between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2025 and pre-operative questionnaires with a completion date between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2025 are included. Where a patient did not record the date that they completed the pre-operative questionnaire, the pre-operative questionnaire scan date is used. Any post-operative questionnaires that are linked to an eligible pre-operative questionnaire and have been sent out to patients, returned and scanned prior to annual questionnaire processing (end of June 2011) are included for analysis. Any further pre- or post-operative questionnaires returned that relate to this coverage period will not be included within the PROMs dataset.

The production of a final set of data allows for a baseline to be created against which future data can be compared to identify if there have been improvements, or not, between data years.

The report is classed as experimental statistics1 as it contains new official statistics that are undergoing evaluation. To add to the value of the information reported, the PROMs data has been linked with Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) episode-level information. Some of the findings from the linked dataset are included in the report.

PROMs data is available if you request a tailor-made report. For more information please see the Quick links section to the right-hand side of this page.

Footnotes

1. Experimental statistics are new official statistics that are undergoing evaluation. A key part of the 'experimental statistics' label is user engagement in the evaluation of those statistics, and the HSCIC invites readers to comment on this publication, which will help inform the next report. Feedback can be provided by completing the comments form available on the Health and Social Care Information Centre website or by sending an email to [email protected].

2. During the HES annual refresh (2009-10) a number of independent sector providers deleted a number of HES records as part of a data upload. This has affected the number of PROMs eligible episodes and thus resulted in an increased participation rate and decreased linkage rate when compared to publications prior to the deletion.

3. An 'eligible episode' is an episode in HES in the period in question, clinically coded with relevant hip, knee, varicose vein or groin hernia OPCS procedure codes which make it suitable for inclusion into PROMs.

4. Not every pre-operative questionnaire will have a post-operative questionnaire sent out. This may be for a number of reasons including the cancellation of an operative or the death of the patient.
