Accessing the data

Trust data

A variety of maternity data for individual NHS trusts and sites, this includes; method of delivery, method of onset of labour and various other selected statistics.

Table 31: Method of onset of labour by NHS trust and site

Comparison of the method used to induce (initiate) labour, rather than to accelerate across NHS Trusts.

Table 32: Method of delivery by NHS trust and site

Comparison of the method used to deliver a baby across NHS Trusts.

Table 33: Selected statistics by NHS trust and site

Comparison of selected statistics across NHS trusts.

Special note: The figures for normal deliveries in 2006-07 have been removed from Table 33 as there was an error in the calculation. Because of the complexity of both the definition and the calculation of these figures the NHS Information Centre intends to consult expert users and clinicians in order to ensure that the definition of a "normal" delivery and the method used to extract the data from the Hospital Episode Statistics database are both clinically and statistically relevant, and reflect current best practice. The implications of any changes will also be investigated for figures published prior to 2006-07. Other 2006-07 figures are not affected.

Table 34: Count of Delivery Episodes by NHS Trust

Number of finished consultant episodes where a delivery took place in an NHS hospital in England for all NHS Trusts.

Table 35: Unassisted deliveries by NHS Trust and site

Number of 'unassisted' deliveries by NHS trust. Please note, 'unassisted' deliveries are not equivalent to normal deliveries.
