This paper uses a retrospective analysis of HES data to identify trends in mortality among patients younger than 16 undergoing open cardiac surgery in England between April 1991 and March 2002.

The researchers found that mortality rates in children aged under 1at Bristol have fallen below the national average. National mortality has also fallen.
