Clinical indicators

The Healthcare Commission publish performance indicators for NHS organisations. Some of those for acute trusts and mental health trusts (and previously primary care trusts) use HES data in their construction.

Particular indicators in the 2003-04 set include emergency re-admission following discharge (adults) or discharge for a fractured hip, deaths following a heart bypass operation or selected non-elective surgical procedures and psychiatric readmissions.

There are also indicators relating to data quality and ethnic data monitoring.
